At the end of the Algebra II course, students should be able to apply functions and equations to a contextual situation and mathematically model it to make appropriate inferences and conclusions based on their knowledge of different mathematical representations.
The course starts by providing a general overview of different families of functions so students can identify the key features that distinguish different families of functions in a variety of representations and then determine in which situations a given family is best for modeling. Each subsequent unit gives students opportunity to develop more depth of knowledge with a thorough understanding of how to use each function family including transformations, finding roots, understanding the effects of restricting domain, range and number sets, inverses, solving for key features including maxima and minima, roots, intercepts and end behavior and how to apply these tools to real life and abstract situations. This course culminates by allowing students to build on this knowledge and have further opportunity for real life application in probability and prediction and statistics and inference from data.Unit 11 Probability And StatisticsAdditional ResourcesSee 2 resourcesHide 2 resources

Quiz Banker creates student-ready editable quiz and answer documents based on an item bank of over 2500 state exam questions.
Quiz Banker supports New York State secondary teachers in generating quizzes based on past Regents exam items. By drawing on bank of items in Google Docs, this Quiz Banker allows teachers more time for the critical tasks of identifying and analyzing student learning needs and planning responsive day-to-day lessons. Teachers can sort and filter questions by Common Core domain, cluster, and standard to make it easier to understand what the Common Core standards mean. Each question is also aligned to New Visions’ free and open source curriculum, making it even easier for teachers to plan in response to evidence of learning. At present the tool current has items for 3 New York State secondary math courses and 2 New York State secondary science courses.

As the students enter the classroom, I post pre-determined student groupings on the projector screen. The manner in which I group the students is not significant to me in this particular lesson, and I just want to have the groups pre-made so that I can jump right in. It is always a good idea to have the discussion with your students that any time they work in groups, they should be professional about their excitement or in some cases disappointment. My students work in groups often enough that they are usually very conscious about this, although I still take time to remind them from time to time. I’m not at all interested in having students get their feelings hurt because a fellow classmate responds in an unprofessional manner! Probability Unit Review
After instructing the students to sit with their teams of 3-4 students, I circulate whiteboards (one per group) and give the students their first tasks:
1) Everyone in the group needs a piece of paperAlgebra 2 Probability Unit
2) Brainstorm a group name that deals with probabilityUnit 11 Probability & Statistics
In my experience, the 2-3 minutes that you take allowing the students to brainstorm group names is well worth your while. They will have a great time selecting a name, PLUS it also forces them to revisit mathematical terminology associated with probabilities and/or statistics. They think it is fun and games – I think that it is great review… A WIN-WIN and a great start to the class period! (Sometimes, I give an extra hundred point head start to the best team name just to stir the pot.)
Infinite stratos ova episode 2. NOTE: For a fun twist, actually have the students play any ’dice’ or ’card’ probability problems that you create (if these types exist in your review). Having the students take a calculated risk adds value and meaning to the mathematics!
